Who we are
Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph (FSJ)-Asumbi is a local Congregation of Diocesan rite in Homa-Bay Diocese, Kenya; founded on 2nd August, 1936. We were founded in Asumbi by Rev. Father Philip Scheffer, a Mill Hill Missionary priest and the first six members of the Institute, namely, Sr. Teresa Nyagonge, Celestine Akoth, Joseph Agwila, Margaret Onyisi, Sr. Anthony Oloo and Sr. Pacifica Akeyo. The canonical formation of the first Sisters was given by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of St. Joseph at the invitation of Rev. Fr. Philip Scheffer.
